WEA Maths project
Lancashire Advanced Training Skills in partner with Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) offers a variety of adult learning maths courses designed to enhance practical numeracy skills for everyday life, work, and further study. These courses are typically free for individuals over 19 who have not achieved a GCSE grade C/grade 4 or higher in maths.
Course Levels and Content:
- Entry Level 3: Focuses on foundational maths skills, such as managing personal budgets and understanding shopping discounts.
- Level 1: Develops practical maths abilities applicable to daily situations, including financial planning and problem-solving.
- Level 2: Equivalent to a GCSE Grade C or Grade 4, this level prepares learners for advanced opportunities by teaching skills like data handling and spatial awareness.
Learning Formats:
We provides flexible learning options, including online courses and in-person classes at community venues, to accommodate diverse learning preferences.

IT FOR LIFE project
The project is to supporting members from the older community within Lancashire, particularly from BAME backgrounds to support them with tasks of daily living and digital tasks/skills. Most of businesses are taking their custom off the high street and moving it online, such as making online GP appointments, online banking appointments and transactions online. Over 50 year olds use the internet every day, but lack the basic skills to use it safely and effectively. Within Lancashire itself, this is heightened due to the added language barrier the BAME population face.
Our project will help to reduce this burden for the younger generation and help to instil independence and confidence in the older generation.
Our project will provide workshops to members of our older generation who may not be equipped with the basic computer literacy skills to make appointments online, complete online banking transactions and how to use different platforms of social media. Our workshops will also focus on the importance of online safety, providing older beneficiaries with the knowledge surrounding online scams and fraud.
We will run our project for a total of 12- weeks, consisting of two separate cohorts of 6 weeks each, taking people through the basics of how to use the internet/social media to meet their diverse needs. Courses will be held in local halls and centres, run by trained professionals in the relevant expertise.
Migrants
Through these efforts, LATS seeks to create positive change for migrants and diaspora communities by equipping them with essential skills and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
We focus on removing barriers to employment by offering practical skills training, career guidance, and direct job placement support. Our training programs target high-demand sectors, including security, transport, hospitality, and healthcare. Through strong partnerships with local employers, community organisations, and job centres, we ensure that our participants not only receive training but also transition into long-term sustainable employment.
Since our inception, we have supported over 300 individuals, helping them gain recognised qualifications and move towards financial stability.
